When Gazetteer SF launched in 2024, Megan Rose Dickey was grinding out a daily newsletter about San Francisco over at Axios. It didn’t take her long to realize that Gazetteer SF was on a mission she wanted to take part in.
Dickey joined the team a few months post-launch, covering tech, business, and (of course) the Golden State Valkyries. Up to that point, she’d worked for TechCrunch, Business Insider, and Axios. For Gazetteer, she wrote about tech’s DEI rollbacks, the history (and present) of Black business owners in Fillmore, San Francisco Police Department’s quiet deployment of drones at Outside Lands and Pride, and animal shelters.
“I did some of my favorite reporting of my career during my first round at Gazetteer SF, largely in part due to the nature of the newsroom,” said Dickey. “At Gazetteer, the focus has never been on clicks or likes, but on quality and impact. That’s what drew me to this publication the first time around, and that’s ultimately what has brought me back to Gazetteer.”
After a brief interregnum in the tech world, Dickey has returned to Gazetteer as our Managing Editor and we can’t be more thrilled. Dickey will report to Gazetteer SF editor-in-chief Matt Haber and help lead editorial processes and news coverage both online and in print.

Dickey rejoins the Gazetteer editorial team at an important moment for both the website and print paper as well as the city we cover. In addition to overseeing our editorial processes, she’ll be covering her Valkyries as they stomp to the WNBA Finals.
