Explore love from every angle at our Chat Room event

Romance, sexuality, and self-love will all be on the agenda

4:18 PM PST on November 13, 2024

Tomorrow our extravaganza of ideas, discourse, and drag otherwise known as Chat Room: Love goes down at Swedish American Hall in the Castro.

A friendly reminder that this event will feature free flow beer (including Budweiser, Elysian Space Dust IPA, Kona Blonde, Stella Artois, and Standard Deviant Hazy IPA) and wine (including Angeline Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). For those who prefer to keep things non-alcoholic, we’ll also have a lovely suite of soda waters and soft drinks.

And now, we want to tell you a bit more about the three discussions we have planned.

Chat 1: Modern Romance in the Bay Area with Elizabeth Dell and Joshua Bote

Let’s face it: Modern love is in a weird state. Most single people say that dating is hard — and many are no longer actively looking for love. Dating apps are uniquely awful. Finding a long-term relationship feels like a crapshoot. The loneliness epidemic is ongoing.

But don’t despair. Elizabeth Dell, CEO of relationship intimacy app Amorus, has spent a lot of time thinking about how romance and relationships work today. She’ll provide insights on what’s wrong with modern dating, how to find romantic love without swiping, and actionable steps to keep your love life spicy – in conversation with Gazetteer SF Culture Reporter Joshua Bote.

Chat 2: Ask a sexologist with Carol Queen and David Khalili

In this special segment, the peanut gallery will rule the day and elite San Francisco sexologists Carol Queen, Phd and David Khalili will spend the entire time answering questions from the crowd.

We'll have a live mic for folks to ask in person, and those that prefer to do things privately may text their questions to us at (415) 787-6570 and have them read aloud by MC Jillian Gnarling.

Carol Queen, PhD, legendary SF author, sociologist, and a leader of the sex-positive feminism movement, is also the resident sexologist at the Good Vibes sex toy shop empire.

David F. Khalili is a licensed marriage and family therapist, board-certified sexologist, and founder of Rouse Relational Wellness, a boutique couples and sex therapy center in San Francisco. He specializes in work that enhances men's relationships with themselves and others, making them feel less lonely and more connected with their communities

Chat 3: AI-powered orgasms with Anna Lee and Megan Rose Dickey

Have you ever seen orgasm data? Neither have we, but we’re all going to get to explore it thanks to the brave folks who have opted in to sharing their vibrator data with leading sex tech company, Lioness.

Lioness co-founder and CEO Anna Lee will walk us through the smart vibrator company’s latest orgasm data, revealing insights like the most popular time of the month to masturbate, the average length of an orgasm, and lots more. Lee – in conversation with Gazetteer SF Business & Technology Reporter Megan Rose Dickey – will also discuss how her product works, her experience raising venture capital for a traditionally taboo topic, and her work in de-stigmatizing sex through technology.

Chat Room: Love is happening Nov. 14 at Swedish American Hall.

Tickets include free flow beer and wine from 6:30-9:30pm. This event is 21+.

Beats will be curated by tigerchild (also known Gazetteer SF city reporter Eddie Kim).

All Chat Room events are free for Gazetteer SF subscribers but space is limited. Subscribers may write to lc@gazetteer.co to receive your free ticket code. Non-subscribers may purchase tickets here for $20 + fees.
